An encouraging post from Heather Palacios at LeadHership on depression:
I've battled depression before. Some of you have battled it too. Some of you are battling it now. To anyone who wonders if depression is real...it is. Depression can cause your mind to deflate; your body to grow weary; your spirit to give up. It can take your perspective away & your smile. Depression is an illness that needs treatment. From my experience, if you REALLY want to beat it, here are some things I've done to beat it, myself:
1) Pray. Alot. Like, nonstop.
2) Get Christian counseling & don't stop going when you feel better. Stop the counseling when the COUNSELOR says you are better.
3) Consider prescription meds. If you had diabetes you'd take insulin. If you had asthma you'd take an inhaler. If you have depression, medicating it is no different. I, personally, take Seroquel.
4) Read. Books I recommend are: "Battlefield of the Mind" by Joyce Meyer; "Praying God's Word" by Beth Moore; "It's Your Time" by Joel Osteen; & "The Purpose Driven Life" by Rick Warren
Depression CAN defeat you but it doesn't HAVE to. Fight back! Take it on with the Lord and get back your life. You can do it!
